HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS
St . Ursula Villa teachers and staff rose to the extraordinary circumstances of educating students in a pandemic : enforcing safety guidelines ; ensuring mask-wearing , temperature-checks , and social-distancing ; modifying classroom procedures ; and helping children adjust to all their new routines – all while nervously stepping into the role of “ front line workers .” Vaccination roll-out in Ohio schools was met with great relief and excitement . Ms . Rula Driggers , Villa school nurse , worked with Villa administration to enable teachers to attend the vaccine clinic in early February .
As the school year closed and social guidelines were relaxed , teachers , staff , and administrators embraced the opportunity to attend an End of School Party . The event on the Manor House patio was the first time all Villa faculty gathered in person since the March 14 , 2020 staff meeting announcing school closures at the pandemic onset . Kent Halaby thanked everyone for their outstanding efforts to keep St . Ursula Villa open , students safe , and morale strong . As a tribute to the administration ’ s dedication , leadership , and hard work , Kent and Lisa Wolfer were presented with sketched portraits – wearing masks – created by Art teacher Mike Magoto and signed by faculty and staff as a memento , prompting Mr . Halaby to say , “ We are not likely to ever forget this difficult , crazy , and ultimately successful school year !”
