Many people helped to organise the fete, but
special thanks really must go to Carolyn and
Philip Prior and Bob Ellis – without whom
none of this would be possible! So to round
it up, a massive thank you to organisers,
stallholders and visitors alike. See you next
year, and don’t forget to bring along your
family and friends!

at the fete, and will donate proceeds from
the sale of them to fete funds. To view them,

So there I am, standing at the book stall, one
hand in the air holding up the tarpaulin
hastily raised against the torrential
rainstorm, the other clutching the piña
colada-in-a-coconut that I’d just won at the
coconut shy. It was bucketing down but
everyone was smiling (and damp). It
stopped, then just as we went to step out,
the monsoon started again.
It was all my fault of course. I had told too
many people “It always threatens rain on
fete day, but then the sun always comes out
just before opening time and we have a
lovely day.” This time, it was just the timing
that was wrong. Because when the rain
stopped after about twenty minutes, the sun
did come out and we did have a lovely day.

“Hands up anyone who likes books …”
If you like piña colada, and
getting caught in the rain …
Yes, well, all I wanted was a couple of hours
at the village fete, wandering around in the
sunshine, watching the dog show and the
scarecrow
judging,
maybe
winning
something on the Tombola, ending up with a
hot dog and a cream tea.
