Bighton Fete
Thanks
If you’d like to have a stall in the Craft Village
at Bighton Fete this year, contact Margaret
on 735870.
Christine Hurn and Sheila Lovett were
presented with bouquets at the Bighton
Village Hall Committee AGM in thanks for
their years of fund-raising. The two have
been organising jumble sales for years in
support of the village hall, and will be sorely
missed. They are an example to all of us. If
anyone feels able to step into their shoes,
please contact a member of the hall
committee. They would, of course, have the
help of all the usual suspects who regularly
turn up to run the tables.
Teddy Bears
If you enjoy knitting or crocheting or sewing
and would like to make a bear for the
Bighton Fete, please contact Margaret on
01962 735870 and she will provide you with
a pattern (unless you have one already) and
if you would like, some wool as well.
Bighton Flower Show
The show which also includes classes for
produce, cooking and crafts has been in
existence for more than 80 years.
Unfortunately the number of entries in the
show has fallen significantly in recent years,
particularly for crafts and the classes for
children. Also several important exhibitors in
the vegetable classes no longer enter.
Efforts to increase entry numbers have not
been successful.
We are very grateful for the support that the
show has received but have now decided
that it is no longer viable in its current format
as it does not appeal to enough village
residents today. Instead as the cookery
classes remain popular we propose to
organise a “Great Bighton Bake-off” as part
of the village fete on 7th September. Full
details will be provided in the next issue of
Village Voice. Schedules with recipes will be
available in August.
We would welcome help to organise the
Bake-off. We would also be happy to pass
over the show to anyone who has new ideas
for organising it in the future. Please contact
Elaine Arnold (736419) or me (733216) if
you would like to get involved.
