COMMENT
If at some time in the distant future Village
Voice were only available online, would this
cause you a problem?
We’ve been thinking about the future of
Village Voice production. Having survived
for twelve years, we have to say that,
financially, things have rarely been so tight.
As regular readers know, the magazine was
self-sufficient in its youth, but in recent years
our advertising revenue has declined
drastically and we have asked for help from
the Christy Hall Amenities Committee,
Bighton Parish Council and our County
Councillor Jackie Porter. We have kept
going on these generous grants, but
advertising revenues have continued to drop
off.
Appeals to our readers have also increased
our funds a little, but frankly, not enough to
ensure our survival. Luckily we have enough
reserves from previous years to keep us
going for the coming year, but there may
come a time when funds run out. Hence our
pondering…
You can already read the magazine on the
Bighton web-site (go to www.bighton.org.uk
and click on Village Voice to see all our recent
editions). One solution to our problems might
be to stop producing the printed edition and rely
solely on the online version.
We know that some people don’t have
access to the internet, but we don’t know
how many, or who they are. If you don’t have
access to the internet and would want to
continue reading the printed version of
Village Voice, can you please help us by
Please don’t panic – nothing is planned at
present this is just a fact-finding mission to
help us decide the best way to go in the
future.
