For more than a decade , One Mission Kids ( OMK ) has partnered with OMS ’ Village Church Planting ministry to get Bibles into the hands of African pastors and church planters . Recognizing that a Bible can be quite expensive for many Africans , OMK has been privileged to help put hundreds of Bibles into the hands of those in greatest need .
Recently , after hearing a chapel presentation from OMS missionary Dean Davis on using newer technology to “ Extend the Word ” across Africa , we knew OMK had to be part of the next stage of the Bibles for Africa project .
With Dean ’ s help , OMK created five short , video-based lessons to introduce the project to kids and their families , starting with one of OMK ’ s pilot locations in Scipio , New York . We paired the Extend the Word mission project with OMK ’ s Mission Adventure : Makin ’ Trax with MAX !, offering kids a chance to learn more about Kenya and an opportunity to donate toward digital Bible resources for those who cannot afford them .
As the first evening of the August 2024 vacation Bible school wrapped up , many thoughts ran through my mind . These mission project videos are unlike other presentations we have created in the past . How would the kids respond to Dean speaking directly to them in a simulated “ live satellite ” format ? Would the short video segments truly inspire the kids to get involved ?
Through the combination of stories , facts , and on-screen graphics , the kids learned from Dean that Bibles are often hard to find in some parts of Africa due to cost , availability , printing , and accessibility . But , digital Bible resources open new possibilities as the Bible is available in hundreds of local African languages !
