BY THE NUMBERS 810 columbus centre danzarts toronto Total dance program registrations 279 Total dance students 3 - 60 DanzArts Toronto, the Columbus Centre’s school of dance, capped a successful 2018 by earning some of the highest overall scores for solos, trios and groups at every competition it entered. Age range of students The year was marked by many other accomplishments, among them: • Student Victoriana Belperio represented Canada at the Dance World Cup in Spain and was accepted into the prestigious ProArteDanza Summer Intensive Program. • Students Victoriana Belperio, Melissa Castrignano, Alexia Pace, Natalia Cassanoo and Juliana Bastone were accepted into the Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts Dance Program and Julia Nardi was accepted into York University’s Dance Program. • DanzArts’ competitive dancers performed at cultural events including the Castello Italia Event at Casa Loma and ITALFEST in Mississauga, and several of them performed at the New Blue Dance Festival, alongside some of Toronto’s top young dancers. Another marker of DanzArts’ success in 2018 was an increase in the number of dance program registrations to 810 from 685 the season before. The dance program was improved and expanded, including: • A new Enriched Intensive Training Program • Dance-fitness and beginner dance classes for adults in DanzArts and seniors at Villa Colombo Toronto • An educational workshop on Commedia D’ell Arte, facilitated by the talented Adam Paolozza DanzArts Toronto members gave back to the community by participating in community events, including: • The Shoebox Project – giving gifts to women in shelters across Canada. • The White Ribbon Campaign – raising awareness of gender-based violence and campaigning to end violence against women on International Women’s Day. • The National Ballet School’s Sharing Dance Day in which DanzArts Toronto students of all ages and levels joined with Villa Colombo Toronto residents to spread the joy of dance by learning a choreographed routine and sharing the experience.
