Villa Academy Annual Report 2014-15 | Page 2

Dear Friends,

Villa Academy is a vibrant and dynamic school—filled with talented and passionate educators who are committed to “our kids” and dedicated to the Mission of Villa Academy—and the Vision of our foundress, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. We’re also a community dedicated to continuous school improvement, and each and every day, we’re writing our ongoing success story!

Our Culture of Philanthropy also continues to grow. The pages of this report demonstrate the generosity of the Villa community, with record proceeds for VillaNOW Annual Giving, and another hugely successful auction.

In addition to what you’ll see in the pages of this report, other exciting and important endeavors realized over the past year include:
• The addition of a school counselor and the establishment of a counseling resource center for the Villa community;
• The expansion of the preschool program through increased enrollment and the construction of an additional classroom;
• The revision of the world language program in the Lower School to allow our grades 1 and 2 students to study either French or Spanish for a full year;
• The implementation of a new Villa website;
• The creation of an ad hoc committee of faculty and staff members who meet regularly to explore and plan new initiatives that develop and advance our outdoor education programs;
• The formation of a professional development program for faculty to investigate and articulate project-based-learning models as a foundation for the further development of STEAM initiatives.

I am proud of Villa Academy and honored to be its Head of School. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and all of my colleagues on the faculty and staff at Villa Academy, thank you for investing in our special school —a school that has made a difference in the Seattle community since 1903—and makes a difference in the lives of children and adults alike, everyday.

Sincerely,

John K. Milroy
Head of School
