Battle Of The Books
By Sun Jin Lee
On November 5th, a school wide battle of the books
was held in Lilies center. Knowledge of a wide range of
books, including A Single Shard, Ben Hur, Boy, The Incredible
Journey, and The Devil’s Arithmetic, were tested by the
competition. Several teams were a part of the event. Mary
and the Winners won the first place with 900 points,
followed by the Olympians who had 810 points. On
November 7th, the two teams competed against each other
to decide who was going to represent our school in an
interdistrict competition. Herlina Widodo, a member of
Mary and the Winners, attended the event despite her
illness to encourage her teammates. However, the Olympians won the
game by four questions. Moze, a member of Mary and the Winners,
stated “I want the best to represent our school and if that’s not Mary
and the Winners, I’m still okay with it.” The winner of the final battle,
the Olympians, competed against BAIS on Saturday, November 16. At
first, the Olympians were losing by seventy five points which made this
battle really intense. However, the Olympians refused to give up and
brought victory with overwhelming 585 points. This year’s teams not
only showed their extensive knowledge and understandings concerning
the books, but also displayed their ardent passion and commitment.
