Athletes of the Month

Swimming

Kyu Ho Lee
Kyu Ho has only been swimming for a year, but Coach McGavran recognized him to be worthy of the title“ Athlete of the Month”. He practices with the rest of the swim team four days a week.. His favorite opponent is Kevin Park because he is very funny. He does not intend to swim for college, but will continue it as a workout. He describes swimming as“ tiring”, which really is.
Zach Armstrong
Zach has run for two years, and is one of the fastest long distance runners on the team. He dedicates about six hours to running per week, each practice being about an hour and a half. His favorite opponent is Paul Jantzi, who is also one of the best runners on the team. Zach has plans to run for college, perhaps Division two. Though he hopes to get some form of scholarship off his running ability, he describes cross country as“ horrible”.

Cross Country

Brittany McGavran
Brittany has been swimming competitively for six years, making her one of the best on the team. She swims four days a week and says that her favorite opponent would either be the clock, or her own father( Coach McGavran). She hopes to compete in intramural swimming in college. Swimming, according to Brittany, is best described as“ intense”.
Bethany Armistead
Bethany has run cross country for about two years, and she is definitely one of the best female runners in IISSAC since she won the race last year. She dedicates about seven hours per week running, adding another run on Sunday in addition to her training with the team. Her favorite opponent is Mary Smith. For college, she could possibly run but it is unsure whether she will run competitively. She describes running as simply:“ running”.

One Simple Question

What is the most common question you’ ve been asked?
Daniel Kim( 10): What’ s up dawg?
Karl Geary( 11): What’ s the answer to question number [_]?
Mr. MacLean: Why are you growing out your beard?

The third and final IISSAC of the year

is approaching. The event will take place on April 26-29 hosted by Bali International School. Mountainview will be sending Brittany McGavran, Sarah Lee, Cindy Lee, Aria Sider and Britt Veldhuizen as IISSAC swimming representatives, and Gary Go, Zach Armstrong, Hunter McGavran, Dominic Martin, Bethany Armistead, Abby Robertson and Grace Baek as cross country representatives. The cross country team was supposed to run on a mountain course provided by a school in Bali called the Green School, but the school was unable to follow through. Instead, our runners will be running on a course that will run over blacktop, grass and sand mapped out by BIS( Bali International School). IISSAC will cost more than two juta per person because participants are going there by plane, but there will be fundraisers to help lower costs.
