The New Librarian of Mountainview ICS
Some students may have wondered about the new lady in the secondary library. For many, she is merely known as the new librarian, who many people describe as“ the new lady who smells nice.” Mbak Atik started working in our library in February this year. Her past job experiences include being a secretary at Tri Tunggal School for five years and at Puspa Madusari, a Dutch company, for three years. She shared how much she enjoys the interaction with the students here, unlike her previous job where her only interactions were with the principal or the boss. According to her, the best part about being a librarian is that she can read all the time. One of her hardships, however, is remembering all the students’ names. She said,“ Sorry if I have to ask your name when you want to borrow [ something ]. I hope no one is upset when I do that.” The next time you see Mbak Atik in the library or around the campus, smile and say hi to her. Let’ s make our new staff feel welcomed!
Perseverance in Teaching

For twelve years Mrs. Armstrong or Aunt Laura has been Mountainview’ s elementary principal, she has developed perseverance and wisdom in interacting with elementary students. She knows that her responsibilities as the principal are to help lay a strong foundation for these children’ s academic, social, and individual growth. Although there are times when it is difficult for Aunt Laura to deal with the students, she notes that she has a few methods up her sleeve.
First and foremost, she asks God for wisdom. Sometimes, she even prays together with the child. Aunt Laura finds prayer a powerful weapon in helping her to be patient with the students, and her perseverance in prayer has often shined a light into how to solve conflicts.
Aunt Laura also overcomes her impatience through her passion for teaching and her love for the energetic elementary students. Her perseverance stems from watching students slowly mature in knowledge and character. In addition, she loves working together with the amazing elementary teachers and receiving warm hugs from them.
Through constant prayer and her joyful teaching, Aunt Laura has played an important role in the rudimentary stages of the elementary students’ lives. Aunt Laura leaves a piece of advice to those who have trouble dealing with children,“ Remember that they are just kids, so set appropriate expectations for them.” These simple yet significant maneuvers have helped her get through hardships in teaching students and persevere throughout her years as Mountainview’ s elementary principal.
Book Character Day By Paul Handali

MICS Elementary’ s Book Character Day was held on March 28, in which both teachers and students dressed up as various book characters. The organizer of this event, Mrs. Stacy Hicklin, the fourth grade teacher, challenged each class with the theme,“ Which book is the best book in the world?” There were six different activities, five of which were associated with important elements of a book: plot, character, conflict, theme, and setting. The sixth was a bonus.
The first station was an obstacle course. In the second station, the students played a“ What Am I” game, tying a card of a character in a band around their head and attempting to guess the character on their head by asking“ yes” or“ no” questions. The third station beheld an Easter egg hunt with Mr. Ken Armstrong starring as the“ Big Bad Wolf” the students had to avoid. The fourth station was located in the library where they read books of different kinds, and the fifth was a game of musical chairs. The final station consisted of computer based activities done in the computer lab.
In the end, the Elementary kids came to a conclusion: the Bible is the best book of all. With the most epic plot, the best heroes and characters, important conflicts, the most beautiful theme and an interesting setting, the Bible truly was not only the best book, but also the Book of Truth--a truth that should be spread throughout the world to ensure that others are redeemed.
