PROTOTYPES (MILLING) Services Verus also has a Roland MDX 540 SA Milling Machine that can produce very accurate models, ideal for complex snapfits. WHAT CAN BE DONE? CNC Machining (subtractive rapid prototyping) is used when accurate models are a must for form and fit prototyping or for functional part testing and manufacturability. The machine can handle a wide variety of materials and can generate a smooth surface finish. HOW DOES IT WORK? CNC Machining involves the systematic removal of unwanted material from a solid block. Starting with a roughing operation the machine will quickly remove as much waste material as needed. The next operation involves the precision cutout of the model and the last operation involves the refinement and finishing. The simplest way to describe CNC machining is automated precise sculpting. It is the perfect solution for functional prototyping. WHAT MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE? We can use almost any material such as; foam, wood, plastic and soft metals like brass or aluminium. HOW DO I GET A QUOTE? There are a few simple steps involved in getting a quote: 1) Make sure your model is in Parasolid format (most 3D modelling software will allow you to export in this format). 2) Make sure the model is under 10MB (if it is larger then give us a call or drop us an email and we will arrange an alternative method for recieving your model. The absolute maximum file size has to be under 100MB). 3) E-mail your model to [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible with a quote or guidelines on changes that may be needed.
