Colombian government has undergone a huge effort in the last decade to improve on its shortcomings in infrastructure , not only refurbishing roads but also airports , sea / river ports , and railways .
Colombia has 2 , 400 kilometers o f n a r r o w g a u g e r a i l r o a d , w h i c h i s d i v i d e d i n t o f o u r different systems managed either by concessions or by national departments .
In 2013 , President Santos announced an ambitious program to update the country ’ s roads within the next six years , allocating an investment of more than USD $ 16 billion .
Most of the road projects are designed to expand the country ’ s transportation system and include more than 30 primary road improvements and construction projects .
According to DANE , during the last quarter of 2014 , investment in infrastructure grew 16.2 percent .
Passenger air travel in Colombia has increased by 10.2 percent over the last year ( mobilizing 34.1 million passengers ) and is ranked ahead of countries such as Argentina and Chile .
4G program aims to build over 4,400 miles of new roads , 88 miles of tunnels , and 94 miles of bridges across the country before the end of the decade .
