VCF Grants $ 130,000 for 2024 Flood Relief
The Vermont Community Foundation ( VCF ) has distributed $ 130,000 in immediate relief funds to assist communities that were turned upside down by the flooding that ripped through the state a few weeks ago . The grants are helping with clean-up , shelter , food , and also funding local long-term recovery groups as they dispatch volunteers and assist people coping with everything from replacing sheetrock to filing for state and federal help .
The flooding earlier this month occurred on the one-year anniversary of the disastrous 2023 flooding in Vermont , deepening the loss and challenge . The Foundation has reactivated the Vermont Flood Response & Recovery Fund to help communities cope with the fresh round of flooding . The fund , created after the 2023 flooding , raised nearly $ 14 million and granted funds to more than 100 communities . Grantmaking to address the damages from the 2023 floods had shifted toward long-term recovery , home repair , and resilience projects . Now the VCF is addressing immediate relief and clean-up needs in flooded regions once again .
The $ 130,000 in grants distributed last week includes assistance to the towns of Plainfield , Peacham , Barnet , and Lyndon , as well as grants to Community Resilience for the Greater Waterbury Area ( CReW ); the Vermont Chapter of the American Red Cross ; Kingdom United Resilience & Recovery Effort ( KURRVE ); and the Lamoille Area Recovery Network ( LeARN ). Grants are also supporting direct aid to individuals and households impacted by flooding . More grants to hard-hit communities are on the way . As the full scope of the damage is assessed , the VCF is collaborating with state and nonprofit partners to help support the individuals , farms , and communities that need help . Okemo Valley Disaster Fund Partners
On the anniversary of the 2023 flooding disaster in Okemo Valley and the State of Vermont , the owners of the Black River Mobile Court used a ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize and celebrate the support they received in restoring homes and the park that had been impacted . The event highlights the Okemo Valley Disaster Fund partners ( Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce , Town of Ludlow , Ludlow Area Rotary , and Crown Point Board of Realtors ) who came together to aid businesses and community members throughout the Okemo Valley Region .

Revolutionary War Reenactment at OSV
Old Sturbridge Village is set to host Redcoats and Rebels , one of New England ’ s largest Revolutionary War reenactments , on August 3 and August 4 . The highly anticipated event promises a weekend of historical immersion , featuring nearly 600 costumed reenactors from across the region portraying both soldiers and civilians from the Revolutionary War era .
Throughout the weekend , guests will have the chance to witness dramatic reenactments of historic battles and skirmishes between Colonial and British troops , complete with cannon and musket demonstrations and cavalry displays . The event will also feature live fife and drum music and special presentations that bring the Revolutionary War to life .
