SVMC ’ s Baby Café
Southwestern Vermont Medical Center ( SVMC ) held a special grand opening celebration of its Baby Café last week , a program offered for new parents through SVMC ’ s Women ’ s and Children ’ s Services ( WCS ). The Baby Café is a free , drop-in , informal breastfeeding support group offering ongoing professional lactation care and intervention .
SVMC ’ s Baby Café is licensed through Baby Café USA , a non-profit 501 ( c )( 3 ) that works to reduce health disparities nationwide and help mothers realize their breastfeeding goals . SVMC ’ s Baby Café started in January , meeting weekly at the Bennington Community Market , located at 239 Main Street . It ’ s now open every Wednesday , from 11am to 12:30pm . SVMC ’ s lactation specialists provide support to moms and baby weigh-ins each week . It ’ s also a chance to connect and socialize . Mothers and babies , along with SVMC staff and leadership , joined the grand opening celebration on April 10 .
Neighbor to Neighbor ’ s 20th Anniversary
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Neighbor to Neighbor ’ s founding in 2004 . Originally named “ Faith in Action ” this organization began as a project of The Interfaith Council of the Northshire ( IFC ), which is made up of the local congregations of Manchester , Dorset , Arlington , Rupert , and Pawlet all of whom recognized a need within the community and worked together to address it . Eventually ‘ Faith in Action ’ was changed to ‘ Neighbor to Neighbor ’ to reflect the desire to be within reach of all individuals regardless of their religious affiliations .
N2N continues to serve older , disabled , and other homebound residents of the Northshire . In the early days , there were about 20 seniors in the program and less than 20 volunteers . That number has now grown to 100 care recipients and 65 + volunteers . We are extremely proud of our success and are committed to continuing our support for this population , offering help with the practical needs of living alone as well as opportunities to stay engaged and connected to their communities .

For the second year in a row , Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital has been named one of Vermont ’ s “ Best Places to Work ” by the Vermont Business Magazine .
The award , given each year by Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce , in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management , the Vermont State Council , the Vermont Department of Commerce and Community Development , and Workforce Research Group , is designed to identify , recognize and honor the best places of employment in Vermont , benefiting the state ’ s economy , workforce , and businesses .
Grace Cottage was ranked 4th out of 14 award recipients in the medium-size company category and once again was the only hospital to win an award this year , out of a total of 65 awardees . The awards ceremony was held on March 26 in Burlington .
Located in Townshend , Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital employs approximately 200 employees and includes a 19-bed Critical Access Hospital ( 24 / 7 emergency care , inpatient acute care , skilled rehabilitation , lab , and diagnostic imaging ); an outpatient rehabilitation department ( physical and occupational therapy ); a Rural Health Clinic providing primary care and mental health services ; a retail pharmacy ; and a Community Wellness Center .
