SVMC Emergency Department Lantern Award
The Kendall Emergency Department at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center ( SVMC ) has been selected as a recipient of the Emergency Nurses Association ’ s 2024 Lantern Award for demonstrating excellence in leadership , practice , education , advocacy , and research performance . The Lantern Award showcases emergency department ’ s ( ED ) accomplishments in incorporating evidence-based practice and innovation into emergency care . As part of the application , EDs are encouraged to share stories that highlight a commitment to patient care , in addition to the well-being of nursing staff . The award serves as a visible symbol of a commitment to quality , safety and a healthy work environment .
The Kendall Emergency Department at SVMC is also the first ED in Vermont to receive the award . In addition to influencing care within the organization , SVMC emergency staff are empowered to be leaders beyond the health system , impacting nurses and other healthcare providers throughout the state and country . In the last three years , SVMC ’ s ED nurses have presented at local , regional , and national conferences on topics including cultural humility , harm reduction , design considerations for emergency psychiatric care , and orientation strategies for new emergency RNs .
SVMC ’ s Lantern Award will be on display in the emergency department . As a recipient , SVMC , a member of Dartmouth Health , will be recognized in upcoming ENA publications , on the ENA website and during Emergency Nursing 2024 , the association ’ s annual conference in Las Vegas , September 4 through September 7 .
RRMC Named Among Best Hospitals
Rutland Regional Medical Center ( RRMC ) has been named by U . S . News & World Report to its 2024-2025 Best Hospitals list as a High Performing hospital for both Hip and Knee Replacements . This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U . S . News ’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings . RRMC is one of only two hospitals in the state to receive High Performing ratings for both procedures .
The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures . For close to a decade , Rutland Regional Medical Center has consistently ranked among the highest performing hospitals for both hip and knee replacement .
U . S . News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions . Hospitals awarded a ‘ Best ” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes , level of nursing care , and patient experience .
To calculate the Best Hospitals rankings , U . S . News evaluated each hospital ’ s performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates , preventable complications , and level of nursing care . The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology measures patient outcomes using data from millions of records provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services . This year , among other methodology refinements , U . S . News incorporated new data on care provided to patients with Medicare Advantage insurance and on care provided to outpatients , nearly doubling the number of patients included in its annual data analysis .

Oliver Subaru of Rutland Loves to Care ®
In early July , Oliver Subaru of Rutland , in partnership with the New York / Vermont Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society ( LLS ), delivered eighty ( 80 ) blankets to the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center . The donation of blankets provides warmth and comfort to patients receiving cancer care and treatment at RRMC . The donation of blankets is part of LLS Subaru Loves to Care program , which delivers blankets to those fighting cancer in hospitals and treatment centers across the country .
The blankets were delivered by Jose Oliver , Owner , and Curtis VanEpps , Managing Partner of Oliver Subaru of Rutland . Foley Cancer Center team members , including Dr . Allan Eisemann , Lindsey Munger , Director of Oncology , and Traci Moore , Senior Director of Development and Community Relations , were on hand to receive the donation of blankets .
“ We will continue to do whatever we can to support the Foley Cancer Center ,” said VanEpps . “ We are grateful for the compassionate care the hospital and the cancer center provide to patients in our community . Worksite Wellness Gold Level Award for UCS
United Counseling Service ( UCS ) is a winner of the 2024 Vermont Governor ’ s Excellence in Worksite Wellness Gold Level Award , presented by the Vermont Governor ’ s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in partnership with the Vermont Department of Health . This award is presented each year to organizations across the state that make employee wellness a priority . The UCS Worksite Wellness Committee engaged staff in several worksite wellness initiatives this year , including a Community Supported Agriculture ( CSA ) program in partnership with Full Well Farm , chair massages for staff , a potluck soup event for staff , quarterly lunches at rotating office locations , and facilitating ergonomic updates for workspaces following recent ergonomic assessments .
