Feet First Friday at MEMS
On the morning of October 11 , students , faculty , and families of the Manchester Elementary and Middle School ( MEMS ) community will be walking , rolling , and riding their way to school . Participants will gather at one of three meeting spots : Manchester Community Library , Northshire Bookstore , or Manchester Rec Park , before heading to school together in this fun , community-centered event . More walkers on the school journey means less traffic on our roads in the morning , benefiting the entire community . This outdoor commute also provides a mental health boost , offering our community moments of connection to start the day together in a healthy way . Be sure to watch for our students along their routes , and feel free to honk , cheer , or wave as they make their way to school ! Visit MEMSPTO . org .

What is a Thermal Energy Network ?
Did you know that we don ’ t have to rely on importing fuels from out of state or install air source heat pumps in every building ? We can add geothermal and other kinds of “ Thermal Energy Networks ” to our mix of solutions and benefit many of our communities . “ Thermal Energy Networks ” ( TENs ) is an umbrella term that can include networked geothermal and other systems that use water to capture , re-use , and share thermal energy between buildings . TENs can also capture existing waste heat from building ventilation or wastewater and put it to use to heat or cool buildings in the network . The more neighborhoods and multi-use buildings that are linked to a shared system , the more affordable and efficient it gets .
Many communities in Vermont and around the country are using these kinds of networks . Learn more on October 10 from 5pm to 7pm at the Manchester Community Library , 138 Cemetery Ave . in Manchester , VT . Debbie New , the director of Vermont Thermal Energy Networks , will explain how and why it works and will share examples of the networks in our state . We invite architects , developers , contractors , municipality officers , and homeowners to learn how you can use TENs in your heating and cooling systems . This presentation is co-sponsored by the Manchester Energy Committee and Earth Matters .
