Bridget: “It was such a blessing that the group that had consistently performed in WWW for 2019 happened to be available for my set at ARISE Festival, which was billed as Bridget Law and Friends. I think there is a chance that someday WWW will take more gigs, but I imagine that for the most part the group will always have a rotating cast. Considering I am having a baby soon, returning to touring is not on my manifestation list, but performing around key festivals and events as WWW is for sure! I also hope that we can work on some recordings soon and even print some merchandise for fun. As far as the mis- sion is concerned, yes, supporting women in fresh, collaborative environments is something I live by and hope to do on and off stage.” Ida Mae: The onsite collaboration and spontaneity are unique. The fact that the set comes out of the festival itself on location adds an element that cannot be duplicated or experienced elsewhere. What is the musical collaboration and process of choosing songs like? How do you put to- gether a stage show with so little rehearsal? Bridget: “Considering we all have busy lives and live in different cities, rehearsal time is limited. So, we begin a few months out, emailing each other and adding songs to a spreadsheet. Everyone contributes a few songs that they would like to do with the group. Then, I edit and populate the list with the group of gals who would best support each tune instrumentally and formulate a set list. That list becomes a playlist and a practice routine on our own so that when we meet in person everyone is familiar with the songs. We find a few moments to rehearse and work out parts and then we bring it to the stage! What makes this work is choosing easy but en- gaging material where there’s lots of room for fun harmonies and solos. It is also important that we all hold standards of professionalism and that everyone is pro- ficient at their craft—which is determined before we even send out invitations to participate. Fortunately, there are so many great women out there who we can call on to be a part of a song or a few for WWW!” WonderGrass presents Sugar & Strings April 10–11 Stratton Mountain Resort winterwondergrass.com VTMAG.COM WINTER 2020 2019 25
