Meet Jen & John Paterson
Jen and John are not only publishers here— they are neighbors. Full-time residents of the area, they embrace the rhythms of Vermont life with enthusiasm and care. Avid outdoor enthusiasts and devoted animal lovers, they appreciate the region’ s seasonal shifts, from snowy winters on the slopes to verdant Green Mountain summers.
That connection is perhaps most visible at their family farm in Weston, where they live with their children, who attend Burr & Burton Academy, and their dogs, chickens, and horses.
Jen’ s lifelong involvement in the Vermont Summer Festival in Dorset is another decades long connection to the area. For more than 30 years, she has competed in the Hunter and Jumper divisions of the celebrated equestrian event.
As new owners of Vermont Magazine, Jen and John bring not just leadership, but a sense of stewardship. Their goal is to continue telling the stories that make this place distinctive— celebrating its people, its landscapes, and its spirit— while confidently guiding the magazine forward.

Longtime champions of community storytelling and regional media, Jen and John now steward a portfolio that includes The Guide, Manchester Life Magazine, and Stratton Magazine, along with VERMONT Magazine— publications deeply rooted in the culture, character, and people of Vermont. The same dedicated team of writers, editors, and art directors has joined them at GMMG to keep the momentum they’ ve built over the years moving forward.
Said John of the acquisition:“ The phrase‘ living the dream’ may seem trite to some, but the chance to combine my lifelong love for, and strong belief in, the unique appeal of magazines like these with Jen’ s sharp financial acumen, and with our shared desire for an animal, friend, and family-filled lifestyle in the pristine hills of Vermont? Well, we are now truly living the dream, and we hope to help our audience do the same with every issue.”
Together, Jen and John share a vision informed by deep professional experience and a genuine, personal commitment to the region they call home. John is a seasoned leader in national publishing, marketing, and advertising, with a career that includes roles at Time, Inc., where he worked extensively with the PEOPLE Magazine franchise, and in corporate roles at the Meredith Corporation. Jen complements this background with her own success as a seasoned finance professional and an independent wealth manager.
