VERMONT ARTS EXCHANGE 30TH ANNIVERSARY
This year , the Vermont Arts Exchange ( VAE ), celebrates its 30th year as a non-profit community arts organization in North Bennington , VT ! Their mission is “ Bringing the arts to people of all ages , abilities , and income through arts education partnerships , performance , and exhibition .” The arts are vital to the health of any community . They strengthen the vibrancy and creative efforts of families , businesses , and schools while feeding the local economy . Over the years , VAE has created affordable housing for artists , facilitated numerous river clean-up and art making events , and presented the Basement Music Series and iconic Summer Art Camps like “ Camp Danger ”. The two Art Buses , ( their “ Mission in Motion ”), are how they take the show on the road with residencies and events . CONGRATULATIONS ! CITIZEN OF THE YEAR , TOM DEE
The Vermont Chamber of Commerce has selected Thomas A . Dee , President and CEO of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center ( SVMC ) as the 2024 Citizen of the Year . He was selected for the award for his outstanding contributions to Southern Vermont , particularly his impactful efforts in health care and community development . The award will be presented at a celebratory event on August 1 at the Everett Mansion at Southern Vermont College in Bennington . The award dates back to 1964 and is presented annually by the Vermont Chamber to honor an outstanding Vermonter who has made major contributions to the betterment of Vermont ; has been distinguished through outstanding service to their community and region ; and typifies the true spirit of service and self-sacrifice in representing the finest ideals of Vermont citizenship .
