Megan: What is your writing process, or do you even have one?
Katherine: When I go to schools, very often, they’ re taking writing very seriously, and the teacher has explained to them the process that real writers go through. By about question number 3, I have to say,“ Let’ s face it- whatever real writers do, I don’ t!” When I started writing seriously, I had tiny children. There was no way I was going to be able to have any block of time for writing. If I had five minutes to write, I became quickly aware that your subconscious is always at work. I would write down what I’ d been given as fast as I could in the five minutes I had. When I was really trying to do something, I would just get up before anybody else was awake and before my“ critic” was awake, because
