Open since September 2023 , The Tinkering Turtle in downtown Burlington has quickly earned a place in the hearts of native Vermonters and visiting vacationers . This unique new toy store came about as the result of an incredible collaboration between ECHO , Leahy Center for Lake Champlain , and the Vermont Teddy Bear Company . The Tinkering Turtle stands out with its eclectic mix of STEM-centric toys , role-playing items , puzzles , games , books , and leading brands such as Fat Brain Toys , eeBoo , and Melissa & Doug . The Vermont Teddy Bear Design Studio within its walls is a remarkable highlight . Visitors can design a bespoke teddy bear , and play an active role in every step , from selecting the fur color to placing the bear ’ s heart . In the
back of the store , there is also a magical space for birthdays . Families can choose from three amazing birthday packages where kids can make their very own stuffed friend to life . This captivating , interactive shopping and play destination doesn ’ t just provide an unforgettable experience for visiting families – it also supports ECHO ’ s science education initiatives .
