The Tale of the Ghost Boat
Lake Bomoseen is captivatingly beautiful . The trees that line the shores give way to rolling hills that build into majestic mountain ranges in the distant horizon . The glassy waters shine like flawless sapphires on warm and breezy summer days , giving way to a pristine and reflective iridescent shimmer as the moon rises at night . On the Western shore of the lake sits the town of West Castleton . In the mid-to-late 1800s , West Castleton was a bustling boomtown , a well populated hub for mining and industrial operations .
European immigrants flocked to West Castleton in the years immediately following the Civil War , where the slate quarries and processing mills provided plentiful opportunity
