Shoreland Permitting newcomers and partners in the town ’ s continued revival . The genuine fellowship between the townspeople resonated deeply with them . As they settled into their roles as innkeepers and community members , Kaelan and Blessing were inspired by the town ’ s rich history and the community ’ s indomitable spirit . After acquiring the inn in August 2022 , The Yen Smiths decided to keep its name while infusing their vision into its future . They embarked on a renovation process that is still evolving in its final phases , and the results are truly beautiful to behold .
Building the Dream
The renovation process was a labor of love , and Kaelan and Blessing approached the project with deep consideration and respect for the inn ’ s past . The six guest rooms and common areas underwent updates that struck the perfect balance between modern amenities and nostalgic charm . By buying locally and supporting nearby shops throughout the renovation , they ensured that their project contributed to the town ’ s growing economy . “ Every time I went to the hardware store in town , J & H Hardware , they made me feel at home ,” shares Kaelan . The staff there offered invaluable advice and shared insights on how to tackle the renovation challenges in the most efficient and effective way . Their expertise , along with their warm and friendly demeanor , made a significant impact on Kaelan ’ s experience .
Embracing the spirit of collaboration , the Yen Smiths also enlisted the expertise of local tradespeople from Vermont and nearby communities in New Hampshire . DeCamp Plumbing & Heating helped modernize some of the inn ’ s plumbing , and Lawrence & Lober Electric got the house ready for solar energy . Cory Black of C . Black Tile in Alstead , New Hampshire , masterfully handled the retiling of several showers . Their combined efforts played an instrumental role in bringing the Yen Smiths ’ vision to life .
“ There were pitched floors in need of leveling and old vanities and toilets and showers that needed to be demolished and replaced ,” notes Kaelan . “ I did 70-75 % of the work myself , along with an assist from some friends and family along the way — drywalling , painting , installing new flooring and fixtures — but I ’ m grateful
