A Gothic Masterpiece Filmed in East Corinth
In East Corinth , Vermont , the gothic masterpiece Beetlejuice truly came to life . The beloved comedy , directed by Tim Burton , captured the imaginations of viewers worldwide with its whimsical and macabre tale of the afterlife . Pivotal scenes in the film that took place at Adam ( Alec Baldwin ) and Barbara ( Geena Davis ) Maitland ’ s house were filmed at a real-life Vermont farmhouse in East Corinth . The classic New England-style architecture of the house perfectly complemented the eerie ambience of the movie .
Vermont ’ s enchanting countryside served as an ideal backdrop . The rolling hills ,
dense forests , and bucolic charm of East Corinth all contributed to the film ’ s distinctive visual aesthetic .
Today , Beetlejuice fans in search of a spirited Vermont adventure can find several key landmarks still standing today , including the covered bridge , which rests on Route 25 , and the site of “ Miss Shannon ’ s School for Girls ”, where Lydia Deetz ( Winona Ryder ) attends classes . Up until recently , the century-old schoolhouse stood as a Masonic Lodge . Last year , an avid Beetlejuice Fan purchased the building . He has been quoted as saying that he intends to renovate it and turn it into a nonprofit center and event venue , which will also house a museum dedicated to Beetlejuice . Just don ’ t say “ You-knowwho ’ s ” name three times unless you ’ re looking for a haunting !
