Johnson adds that in addition to on-site recovery services , the Springfield transitional house also collaborates with an innovative recovery-centric job program called Working Fields . Working Fields was founded by Mickey Wiles , who also happens to be a person in long term recovery from SUD . The program helps to connect people with SUD with local employers , and also works with them on their personal skills through a continual process of coaching and reflective self-evaluation . “ We have a Working Fields office right here at the center ,” says Johnson . “ It ’ s a fantastic program that helps our residents find employment , which is incredibly important in recovery . I personally believe that connection and community involvement at every level can make all the difference in helping people with SUD build a successful and stable future for themselves .”
According to Johnson , every resident of the house is required to sign a contract where they agree to attend a certain number of recovery fellowship meetings and participate in volunteer service work . In addition , every resident is required to work with a recovery coach , and they are all required to actively search for gainful employment . “ The house has been here since 2008 , and we have a very high success rate ,” says Johnson . “ We attribute our 85 % long-term success rate to our active involvement in the lives of our residents . Most people stay at the transitional house for around 12 to 18 months . When they leave , they stay connected . Many of them also return here to work as recovery coaches . It feels good to see people actively involved in their sobriety fellowships who are living productive lives and helping others who struggle with SUD . It gives me a lot of hope to see that , and hope is a very powerful pillar of recovery .”
The Springfield Turning Point Center ’ s Emergency Department Supervisor Astrid Bradish-Hoyt is also a firm believer in the power of hopeful connection . Bradish-Hoyt is a person in long-term recovery from
