Maureen Katherine Molloy
Maureen Katherine Molloy , physician and attorney , died March 18 , 2017 , after a long and happy life at the age of 85 . Maureen Molloy was born in New York City and graduated from Barnard College and the State University of New York College of Medicine , Downstate Medical Center . After interning in Montreal , she completed the Harvard Combined ( Residency ) Program in orthopaedic surgery at Children ’ s Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1963 . She received her Master of Science in Hygiene degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in 1964 . She soon moved to Vermont and became Consultant in Orthopaedics to the Vermont Department of Health and was also on the staff of what is now UVM Medical Center and clinical associate professor of orthopaedics at the UVM College of Medicine . Dr . Molloy retired in 1987 to enter Cornell University Law School receiving her JD in 1990 . After practicing for one year in Ithaca , she returned to Vermont and opened her consultancy in legal medicine in 1991 and retired in 2006 . Dr . Molloy was board certified in orthopaedic surgery , and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery , the Scoliosis Research Society and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America . In 2000 she was President of the Vermont Medical Society and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Vermont Bar Association . Dr . Molloy enjoyed law and medicine as well as planning , building and landscaping her home , reading and traveling .
Joseph W . R . Parks
Joseph W . R . Parks , 91 , of Old Bennington , World War II Purple Heart Veteran , lawyer , and former owner of Prospect Ski Area and of the Bennington Bookstore , died May 3 , 2017 at the Vermont Veterans Home , where he had resided for the past two years . Born on June 16 , 1925 in St . Louis , Missouri , Joe graduated from high school during WWII and had already enlisted in the army . His military training entitled him to enter Officer Candidate School where he graduated in 1943 at age 18 . He traveled to Europe and served our country for two years until he was wounded and taken hostage by German forces . Joe ’ s war injuries entitled him to college education so upon returning to St . Louis , he received three degrees from Washington University : Business Administration ( B . S .), Economics ( A . B .) and Law ( J . D ). He later furthered his law degree to include International Law ( LL . M ) at Yale University School of Law . Joe practiced law in New York City for several years but moved to Bennington where he owned and operated the Bennington Bookshop from 1965 to 1972 . Joe then returned to practicing law in Bennington . In 1976 , he authored the Bicentennial “ Pownal : A Vermont Town ’ s Two Hundred Years and More .” His love of history brought him to researching and publishing history articles at The Bennington Museum . Joe also sat on the local Historical Preservation Commission and on Old Bennington ’ s Planning Commission . He was also a zoning administrator .
Linda Williamson
Linda Williamson died May 30 , 2017 of pancreatic cancer at Mt . Ascutney Hospital at the age of 65 . Linda was born in Fairfield , CT on December 29 , 1951 . She left college early to work as a ski instructor and then as director of the Hartland Public Library from 1987-2001 . She later earned her degree from the College of Lifelong Learning followed by a JD from VLS in 2005 . Linda was a tireless advocate to vulnerable members of the community and was a founding attorney with the Windsor / Orange Legal Assistance Project , providing lo-bono and pro-bono legal assistance to indigent clients . Her lasting legacy includes the library building at Foster Meadows in Hartland and as founding member of the Lull ’ s Brook Watershed Association . She was a gourmet cook , expert gardener , ski instructor , horse trainer and dressage horse enthusiast . Linda is survived by her husband of 41 years , Tom , and three children .
Norris C . Knosher
Norris C . Knosher , of Montpelier , passed away on June 8 , 2017 . Norris was born in Brooklyn , New York , on Nov . 5 , 1938 . The family moved to San Francisco and then to Sacramento , where Norris went to school and graduated from Sacramento High School . He decided to attend college “ in the East ” and applied to one college . He was accepted and graduated from Dartmouth College . After graduation , he decided he might enjoy practicing law . He applied to two schools and chose The Harvard Law School . Norris came to Montpelier for his first job , working at National Life Insurance Co . He then went into private practice in the law firm of Rice and Knosher . He later returned to National Life and retired from that company . He was a member of the Vermont Bar Association for approximately 50 years . He was known and respected by friends and colleagues as an extremely competent tax and estate planning attorney who was willing to assist people regardless of their station in life . Norris spent 30 years volunteering for the American Red Cross , especially the Blood Services program .
Peter Morrow Collins
Peter Morrow Collins , of South Burlington , after a prolonged battle with cancer , died peacefully on June 10 , 2017 , surrounded by his loving family . Peter was born in New York City in 1937 . Peter entered Dartmouth in 1955 , graduating in 1959 . In 1959 , he was admitted to Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport , RI , where he served on two destroyer escorts out of Newport . He attended Boston University Law School , and upon graduation in 1965 , moved to Burlington , Vermont . Peter carved his own path in law , from clerking and practicing at Mikell & Stuart , to hanging his own shingle , to founding partner of Paul , Frank & Collins , which he helped to build into a preeminent , enduring law firm . He served on numerous community boards , including the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Burlington Police Commission . Over his fifty years of practice he served his clients with integrity and empathy . On June 9 , 2017 , the Champlain College Board of Trustees approved a Resolution in Recognition and Appreciation of Peter ’ s service for over fifty years . Peter ’ s true passion was for sailing and boats , as evidenced by his 44-year active membership in the Lake Champlain Yacht Club . Peter loved the natural beauty of Vermont , enjoying motorcycle rides on its backroads , hiking , and cross-country skiing and loved dogs . Peter is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years , Bern , and their three children .
Charles R . Cummings
Charles R . Cummings passed away on June 12 , 2017 at the age of 87 . Born in Fall River , MA , a lover of sailing , and coming from a long line of Fall River attorneys , Chuck never thought he would end up in land-locked Vermont . He attended Hobart College and graduated from Boston University Law School in 1956 . One summer , he met Jon Kristensen , who was in need of an associate , and from that time
