Thaddeus Roman Lorentz
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September
19, 1919, Eugene V. Clark, 95, of Bennington, died May 15, 2015. After graduating
from Harvard in 1940, serving in the Navy
during World War II, and earning his law
degree at Cornell Law School in 1948, he
moved to Bennington to practice law. He
served as municipal court judge from 1959
to 1962, Bennington County state senator
from 1962 to 1964, and a member of the
Vermont House of Representatives in 1968.
He served as president of the Bennington
County Bar Association and a member of
the Vermont Board of Bar Examiners. He
was also active in church and community
affairs. He retired from the practice of law
when he was 80. He is survived by his two
sons and their wives, a brother, two grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard Henry Coutant III of Guilford
died June 7, 2015 at the age of 67. Born
in East Orange, New Jersey, on April 6,
1948, he moved with his parents to East
Bethel, Vermont, in 1953. In 1986 he completed his law degree at Vermont Law
School, where he served as head notes
editor of the law review. He began legal work in Bellows Falls for Salmond and
Nostrand Attorneys, became a partner
two years later, and remained in the firm
until his death. He is survived by his wife,
Verandah two daughters and a son-in-law,
his sister, a granddaughter, and nieces and
nephews.
Born November 23, 1948, in Rochester, New York, Thaddeus Roman Lorentz,
66, of Rutland, died June 17, 2015. He attended McGill University in Montreal and
St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New
York, and earned his law degree at St.
Mary’s Law School in San Antonio, Texas.
He moved to Vermont in 1974 and started
his legal career as a public defender for
Rutland and Bennington. He later served
as Rutland City grand juror. In 1978, he
and his wife, Stephanie, opened a law
practice, Lorentz & Lorentz, which became
Lorentz, Lorentz & Harnett in the late
1980s. He was active in local affairs, and
was an accomplished composer and performer. He is survived by his wife, a son,
his mother, and a brother and sister and
their families.
