SECONDARY
WELCOME
TO VIS
SECONDARY
SCHOOL!
For the past semester in secondary, I’ve witnessed a
wealth of academic, social and emotional growth
amongst our students. These milestones reflected
what our students can achieve when we, teachers,
put relationships first in and out of the classroom.
In lower secondary (Y7-9), I had the privilege of
experiencing the wonderful IMYC exit points
prepared by the students. These exit points were
challenging in every aspect. I saw the immense
academic, social and emotional growth these
young adults made as they collaborated with one
another for a common goal. Their collaboration and
resilience allowed them to create unique projects
and showcased their understanding of the big idea.
However, the bigger picture here was that they
became better people. The personal and
collaborative conflicts they endured through these
exit points allowed them to learn more about
themselves as well as their peers. They worked with
one another to resolve conflicts and obstacles with
the support of their teachers. In turn, they became
more resilient, empathetic and most importantly,
self- regulated. This was the real achievement I
witnessed amongst them.
These achievements were not limited to lower
secondary students, our upper secondary (Y10)
students also achieved their own milestones
through their mid-terms. The difficulty and stress
levels of these mid-terms truly tested their
patience, resilience, time- management,
responsibility and diligence. I observed first hand
the dramatic transformation these students went
through as they truly became the “adult” in the
teenager we all hope to see one day. I am very
proud of these important milestones they achieved
as it will serve them well in the coming years. On
the whole, I am thrilled with what each student has
achieved with the dedication and support of their
teachers and parents for the past semester.
