$ 2 Million Gift from Women ’ s Hospital Foundation to Support Nursing Scholarships and Educational Technology

Stevenson is pleased to announce that the Women ’ s Hospital Foundation , Inc ., has pledged $ 2 million to the university ’ s Sandra R . Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions . The gift — one of the largest to the university in our 74-year history — will be used to support scholarships for nursing students as well as new educational technology to enhance nurse teaching and professional preparation .
“ The Women ’ s Hospital Foundation has been a great friend and supporter of Stevenson nursing for many years ,” said Stevenson President Elliot Hirshman , Ph . D . “ The Foundation ’ s generosity has helped us to ensure quality nursing education for our students — from endowed professorships to this most recent gift for scholarships and educational technology . We are very grateful for this extraordinary gift and for the Foundation ’ s commitment to fostering access to and excellence in nursing education .”
A significant portion of the Foundation ’ s gift to Stevenson will be dedicated to scholarships that enhance students ’ access to nursing education , an initiative that helps meet the region ’ s ongoing need for highly skilled and qualified nurses . Additional funds from the gift will be used to implement new educational technology in courses that develop students ’ skills in patient health assessment and prepare Stevenson nursing students for licensure .

The Women ’ s Hospital Foundation is a Maryland-based charitable organization tracing its roots to the Hospital for the Women of Maryland of Baltimore City , better known as The Women ’ s Hospital , which served the healthcare needs of women and operated a hospital in the Bolton Hill section of Baltimore from 1882 until 1965 . During much of its period of operation , the Women ’ s Hospital also operated a nursing school . Today the Women ’ s Hospital Foundation continues the mission of the hospital ’ s founders by providing support to organizations and educational institutions which seek to improve healthcare education and broaden access to healthcare services .
Stevenson ’ s nursing program was founded in 1991 and has since graduated more than 3,000 bachelor ’ s and master ’ s nursing students . As of Fall 2021 , Stevenson had 485 students enrolled in our traditional undergraduate nursing program , 255 students in the RN-to-BS / Associate to Bachelor ’ s Nursing program , and 130 students in the Master ’ s in Nursing program .
