PRESIDENT’ S PERSPECTIVE
Welcome to the Fall 2025 edition of Ventures magazine. This issue arrives at an especially exciting time for Stevenson University, as we continue to make tremendous progress on the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Family Performing Arts Center.
Interior finishing of this much-anticipated facility is now underway, and we look forward to celebrating its dedication in Spring 2026. When it opens for the start of the 2026 – 2027 academic year, the Berman Family Performing Arts Center will serve as a cultural cornerstone for our university, enriching the campus and academic life of our entire community. You can read more about our progress on the Berman Family Performing Arts Center and our new North Campus Quadrangle on page 2.
In recognition of the significant role this new Center will play at Stevenson, our feature article explores the University’ s longstanding tradition of musical performance— an enduring part of our curricular, co-curricular, and campus life for more than three decades. From choral and instrumental music to theater, dance, and fashion, the performing arts have always reflected one of our core institutional values: fostering community. Through the collaborative creativity of the arts, our students, faculty, staff, and alumni will continue to find shared purpose, inspiration, and belonging.
This issue also provides an opportunity to honor several retiring leaders who have left an indelible mark on Stevenson through their years of dedicated service and steadfast pursuit of excellence— both in academics and in athletics. Their leadership and vision have helped to shape the university we are today and set strong foundations for our future.
We also recognize the late Malcolm Berman, who— together with his wife and university Trustee, Sandra— has left a legacy of uplifting healthcare and education in Maryland, and whose friendship and giving have transformed Stevenson’ s campus and student experience.
Finally, and as always, we extend our deepest gratitude to our generous Stevenson alumni, families, and supporters. Your philanthropy continues to strengthen our mission and ensure that future generations of Stevenson students have the resources, opportunities, and experiences they need to thrive and achieve their aspirations. Thank you for being part of our remarkable journey as a university community.
Sincerely,
Elliot L. Hirshman, Ph. D.
