Be one of the tens of thousands of people that participate in one
of the most exciting annual events in Okinawa! The Naha Tug
of War is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for
having the world’s largest tug of war rope. The rope is so large
that Highway 58 is closed down! Take home a piece of the rope to
symbolize good luck for the rest of the year. Don’t forget
to bring your camera and yen for purchases.

43 RD YOMITAN FESTIVAL
Sunday, 29 October • 5 pm - 10 pm
The Yomitan Festival is an annual event where
villagers unite to show their will and spirit. Listen
to a 300 Sanshin player orchestra perform Ryukyuan
classical music. There will also be a traditional dance
performance as well as plays and lion dances.
Please bring yen for purchases and don’t forget
your camera!
SHI SHI MAI FESTIVAL
Sunday, 5 November • 5 pm - 10 pm
Celebrate the 32 nd Annual Shi Shi Mai Lion
Dance Festival. Enjoy the brightly colored
costumes brought from all over the island as
they perform the traditional dances. Many
believe the Okinawan guardian of Shisa
protects against evil spirits and brings
good fortune. Don’t forget to bring your
cameras and yen for purchases.
SHURI CASTLE FESTIVAL
ON KOKUSAI STREET
Sunday, 5 November • 11 am - 5 pm
View the reenactment of the Ryukyu Kingdom era with a
magnifi cent Ryukyu Dynasty Parade on Kokusai Street.
We will witness a cast of 1,000 selected performers
as they parade in their vibrant and colorful costumes.
You will see the King of the Ryukyus and his elegant
Queen in this revival of the prosperous Ryukyu Dynasty
to the present. Don’t miss this special event! Bring
your cameras and be ready to go back in time and
experience the traditions. Don’t forget your yen for
souvenirs and purchases.
