The Summer Reading Slide
Studies show that children who don’t read over the summer experience
summer learning loss. Children don’t just feel like they’ve forgotten some of
what they have learned they actually do lose some of what they learned during
the previous school year. Children who lose reading skills over the summer
will be an average of two years behind their classmates by the end of sixth
grade. By joining the Summer Reading Program, children can prevent this
from happening and keep their academic progress on the up and up.
