His brother Otto Albert , born in Berlin on April 7 , 1915 , left Germany in 1933 immediately after Hitler came to power . First in Paris , then in London and Trieste ; fighter in Spain and again in the south of France before emigrating to the United States in 1941 . The surname became American and lost a final n . Economist in the trace of a Nobel Prize ( never obtained ), he has taught in the most prestigious North American universities such as Columbia , Yale , Harvard and Princeton . The younger of the Hirschmann brothers , Eva Estelle , born in Berlin in 1920 , after a few years in England and a short-lived marriage in the United States , moved to Italy in the late 1940s .
