VEILED: PERSPECTIVES
Ginella started wearing hijab for a slightly different reason. Both her mother and older sister wore the
headscarf. Influenced by the women she looked up to, Ginella insisted at the age of 6 she wear the hijab as
well regardless of her mother’s persistence on her waiting because she was too young and did not understand hijab very well. She began wearing hijab irregularily and once she hit around 9 years, she began to
wear it permanently in public. She has lived with hijab for so long that at this age she cannot fathom her
daily life without her hijab on.
