About Me
ABOUT ME
In highschool I read A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. To this day it remains one of my favourite books. Prior to reading the novel, I had no knowledge of Afghanistan or Islam other than what was
shown through media. Since then, I have read countless books about Afghanistan, Muslim women and
their families, and stories rooted in moments of history and political turmoil.
During the past few years, Muslims have been getting a lot of attention. From their dress to the political
issues of war, there is an unfair amount of backlash aimed at the Muslim community. A lot of that worldwide attention is built up from prejudice and misguided information. Thinking back on it, I too have fallen
victim to prejudice. As I`ve enlightened myself on the topic, I am far more aware of my thoughts and comments. I’ve met so many amazing and kind-hearted Muslim women during the time of this project and the
last thing I would want to hear is someone label them as violent, oppressed, or backwards.
Throughout my four years at Ryerson University in the Fashion Communication program, I have learned
more than I ever could on my own. All of this has lead me to where I am today. I want to take everything
I’ve learned and use it to make a positive impact in our society.
