Air conditioners and coolers helps keep the insides cool. But not every one has them. and
they do deplete our ozone layer. Fans too help.
When the out side air cools a bit in the evenings, use an exhaust fan to push out the hot
air inside.
You could also use table fans or pedestal fans near open windows and doors. These
can be used as exhaust fans, and when that is done, you could turn it around to help bring
the cool air in.
Water sprinkled around the room, or a slab of ice or cold water placed below the
ceiling fan will help keep the room cool. If water is not scarce.. have frequent baths.
Sleep under the fan, with a damp sheet over your body. [Wet sheets and wring out the
water well, or give a semi dry spin in your washing machine.]
Next day, air the rooms in the cooler morning air. Then, close the doors and windows
to keep the cool air in. At least, close the windows and doors that bring in direct sunlight.
[mainly the east and west facing ones]
And last, a tip given by an old aunt in AP. If you have to go outdoors, to tuck in a
shallot/small onion in your clothing touching your skin. It will help keep heat stroke away.
If one gets heat stroke/sun stroke, it is important to cool down the body fast. Remove
the person to a shaded place. If you cant immerse the person in water [which would be
best] swab all over with water, loosen tight clothing. Give water to drink. Call a doctor.
PS: If you are facing acute water shortage. Learn ways to reuse water when possible.
The last rinse water from washing machines or otherwise, can be used to swab floors or
water plants. Do not use a fully open tap in the sink or wash basin. If you can collect water
used to wash utensils, they can be used to water your garden.
Be adaptive. Live wisely.
