Every morning, while driving through Kochi’s
clogged roads, he scans for children working
in shops or begging for a living. “I photograph
them,” says Murugan, who has a costly digital
camera, a gift from one of his many fans.
“Then I lodge a complaint with the nearest
police station.” Over the past six years,
Murugan has rescued more than 2,000
children from different parts of the city. [now

What drives his mission? “It is my own
life,” says Murugan, who hails from a poor
family in Chengotta district in Tamil Nadu. His
parents migrated to Idukki district in Kerala in
search of work. “That was before I was born,”
he recalls. “We were a happy family. My

parents were plantation labourers. My
mother earned Rs 300 a month.”
Then he was brought up in the slums
of Kochi, and grew up seeing the growth of
Metro Kochi . Bro.Mavooris a well known
Social worker gave a new life path to
Murugan. From the slum boy image,
Murugan got a new life with many friends in
Don Bosco Snehabhavan. From there,
Murugan learned to read and write in
Malayalam. There, Murugan got vocational
training in building construction as a mason.
More over, the hard experience of life, taught
him to love the world with kindness and
humanity and humility.. like a deep sea…….!
