CAREER CENTRE COORDINATOR – CAPE TOWN
MELISSA LEWIS
Melissa is passionate about placing our students in
positions that are in-line with their qualification, and
speak to who they are as individuals. She truly believes
that if students are looking to take their career to the
next level, they need to start while they are on campus.
They can do this by utilising the Career Centre service
throughout their studies, attending Career Centre
workshops, networking with employers at our Career
Centre events, and participating in campus life, sport
and community engagement activities, and lastly
keeping their results up. All of these strategies add
great value to a students CV, which makes them more
appealing to employers and gives them the confidence
to enter the workforce.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
MUST I REGISTER WITH THE CAREER CENTRE IN ORDER
FOR ME TO BE PUT FORWARD FOR A POSITION?
Yes. Your Career Centre Coordinator will put forward candidates they know and
who they believe are a suitable fit for the job. The Career Centre cannot make
guarantees to any students, but work closely with committed students to ensure
they are presented and considered in the best possible light.
IS BEING PAID FOR PART-TIME WORK IMPORTANT?
Some positions will just offer the experience and opportunity to learn which is
often worth more in the long term than a little money.
WILL MY PART-TIME WORK SKILLS BE
TRANSFERABLE TO MY FULL-TIME CAREER?
Yes. Any skills developed through part-time employment will become invaluable
once you embark on your career. Even waiting tables will teach you skills such as
dealing with difficult customers and working under pressure.
