For many vapers, the fi rst thing that comes to mind when talking
about Vapefly is their range of well-made and interestingly-designed
rebuildable atomisers. They’ve been making an effort to break into
the starter kit market recently though and the Galaxies Kit is one such
offering.
Construction, fi t and fi nish are great for such an affordable device.
This is a simple stick-style kit but the all-metal body feels sturdy and
there are no egregious seams or button rattle to speak of. I like the
fact that Vapefly have opted for minimalist styling and have avoided
the audacious decals that often appear on kits of this nature.
In terms of user experience, Vapefly have kept things simple whilst
still allowing for some user adjustment. The fi re button powers the
device on or off with fi ve clicks and also cycles through three power
settings with three clicks. You can choose from bypass mode, which
simply works from the resting voltage of the internal cell, or fi xed 3.3V
and 3.7V settings. I’m a big fan of this, since most stick kits like this
offer bypass mode only, which results in declining power output as
the battery drains. With regulated voltage settings, new users can
fi nd a level of power they enjoy and experience that for the entire run
time of the internal cell. Of course, using the 3.7V setting will deplete
the battery more quickly but this is to be expected.
The 1400mAh internal cell provides an impressive run time and
charges from flat to full in about 1.5 hours, which is perfectly
reasonable. I found the Galaxies kit to easily last a full day’s charge
with either of the included coils, at any of the settings, though this run
time can be pushed even further with the 1.2Ohm coil.
The Galaxies kit is bundled with the Galaxies MTL stock coil tank
and I feel that this is an atomiser which has flown under the radar
of many vapers. It’s a very simple design, incorporating top fi ll and
a range of MTL airflow options that leave quite a few competitors in
the dust. You can choose from one of fi ve individual inlets, or open as
many as you wish at once, depending on your preferred draw. At the
tightest setting, this is a traditional MTL draw that many atomisers
fail to provide these days and even when fully open, you can expect
a moderate MTL experience that’s more similar to a modern pod

system. The Galaxies tank is smooth and quiet on any of these
settings, which is fantastic.
The kit comes with two replacement coils. The fi rst is an 0.8Ohm
mesh head, rated for 13W-17W. I personally enjoyed it most at
3.7V, with the third largest airflow setting but really it performs
fantastically at any of the recommended wattages or airflow settings,
with punchy flavour and a pleasant throat hit. This makes it a cut
above most stock MTL coils and other manufacturers should take
note. Longevity was good but not outstanding here and I was able to
run 20mls of moderately sweet e-liquid through the mesh coil before
it deteriorated signifi cantly.
The second coil is a 1.2Ohm round wire build rated for 9W-12W.
It provides a very similar vape experience to the mesh coil, with
marginally less poppy flavour, though it makes up for this with less
power and e-liquid consumption. I found the longevity to be just
about the same as the mesh coil, so there’s no clear winner and I
think it’s down to personal preference.
In summary, the Vapefly Galaxies is a very solid starter kit and serves
as a nice introduction to vaping for new users. The combination of
practical run time, good build quality and a really nice MTL tank make
for a device which should especially appeal to smokers.
