Foolish Decisions Assured Big Pharma also have the regulators in their back pocket to an extent due to the amount of medicinal licences bought, and, the E-cig industry has not played catch-up like it should of in terms of science and product safety, a fish out of water, but that is just my opinion for what it is worth. Our company helps take these fish and return them to flowing water and I will make a point of getting life insurance before its too long and I end up getting bumped off for my efforts. Moving swiftly on…. in this my first edition I should introduce you to some of the companies on your home soil that we work with and some of the questions they recently had on the tips of their tongues. CRFT With a near space age facility, CRFT are set to co-pack to the highest standards possible. I have been continuously impressed with this company’s effort to date not only from a regulatory point but the quality of final product. I am expecting bigger and better things to come. Q. I hear that some of the acids commonly used in e-liquids derogate nicotine concentration, is this true? A. Yes mate BAD DRIP Bad Drip from New York has taken many European markets by storm. Their full range is under going emissions testing and toxicity research for TPD by an MHRA Accredited and FDA-approved laboratory. Having recently visited their facility, they are very well placed to continue exporting to overseas foreign markets. Q. Why did you bother to help companies like ours achieve regulatory status? A. I set up Vape Compliance Ltd because a majority of independent e-cig manufacturers did not have the right scientific support or resource to achieve TPD let alone anything else. The idea was to be the most cost effective with the highest credibility and we achieve that through our professional background and desire to keep this sector as boutique for as long as possible. Element E-liquids Miami Beach based Element were another liquid to gain rapid popularity on overseas shores, they have a larger range due to the rush to bring products to the American market and have continued on their original success. Q. How long will it take for a product to be notified? A. Timing is key and provided you have an understanding of exactly what you put in your liquid then the process is just dependent on the lab time. Emissions tests usually take less than a working week to conduct, we allow another week for the report before we then look at the toxicity in both liquid and vapour phase. From start to finish F E AT U R E it’s a 4-6 week process but again contingency must be placed on lab slots and all the other non-scientific company information that is required for upload. Charlies Chalk Dust Almost a household name now, Charlie’s Dominated EU markets early on and is another company releasing new flavour profiles for gourmet liquid consumers. They have an impressive operation that runs out of Costa Mesa in California and are on the verge of completing notification content. Q. Will EU TPD change in the future and if so to what extent? Will Brexit affect TPD? A. I dare say it will and to what extent I do not know, what will be required, on the scientific front, is final product MSDS, in addition to stability studies to quantify your liquid sell/use by dates. Brexit may give the UK an opportunity to address Article 20, the scientific requirements will probably stay the same and we may get to change things like bottle and tank sizes and maybe advertising bans will be lifted due to the overwhelming evidence that stipulates vaping is safer than smoking. Times are more busy for me than ever; I return to America on 20th August and look forward to working away on science and regulation as ever. If you have any questions on science or regulation please send me an email entitled VAPOUROUND QUESTION to [email protected] I will pick the best 10 questions and get them printed in the next issue. My Vapouround email record for an article is 509 emails so I hope you are near a keyboard! VAPOUROUND MAGAZINE USA 63
