The UK is a textbook example for vaping regulation , according to one of the world ’ s leading voices in the global tobacco harm reduction industry .
Elise Rasmussen , founder and president of the Global Tobacco and Nicotine Forum , described the industry as an ‘ exceptional and extraordinary ’ force for helping smokers quit .
She warned that , despite the huge amount of progress already made , much more needed to be done .
Speaking at the FEELM media event at Silverstone , she said : “ Regulation policies vary greatly across the globe , but I take pride that the United Kingdom , my adopted homeland , has a successful national harm reduction strategy in place .
“ While many major markets are still figuring out a regulatory framework , the UK ’ s early decision to embrace electronic nicotine delivery products is an example of the potential before us all .
“ The success and the scientific data that we can generate from cases like the UK will be important parts of the harm reduction dialogue , globally and locally .”
She said the ‘ vastly lower ’ harm and risk profiles from ENDS products were changing lives for the better around the world .
Elise added : “ This industry has empowered consumers to make informed choices and take charge of their decisions .
“ Industry leaders like FEELM , along with established and new companies around the world , bring gravitas , investment and responsible product marketing .

The UK ’ s early decision to embrace electronic nicotine delivery products is an example of the potential before us all .
“ Together with sophisticated R & D and production methods , this helps the industry set higher stewardship and quality standards that are now world class .”
She warned that , as the global debate on flavours evolved , it was vital that the entire ENDS industry took a ‘ focused and responsible approach ’ to every aspect of its business and its relationship to society .
“ Speaking personally , I believe the approach we have now is correct and will demonstrate the capability and seriousness of this industry .
“ This approach will also allow for all stakeholders to come together and achieve the breath-taking potential for harm reduction that is before us all … while simultaneously ensuring that minors do not find these products enticing .”
She said constant innovation was needed to offer consumers exciting new and revolutionary products and allow the world to see the promise of tobacco harm reduction fulfilled .
