overwhelming scientific evidence and recommendations from parliamentarians and public health bodies .” It also highlighted that restricting access to flavoured vape products to young people made little sense because the UK did not have a youth vaping issue .
The UKVIA tweeted : “ Let ’ s be clear : vaping is the most successful method by far of quitting in the UK . “ Flavours play an essential role to the continued success of vaping for millions . “ According to a recent report by ASH the UK does not have a youth vaping problem .” The Department of Health said it would publish a plan later this year to set out exactly how the government planned to meet its smokefree target . An open letter to the Prime Minister and Health Secretary , recently published in the
British Medical Journal from a number of medics , warned that 200,000 under 16s had started smoking in England in the last two years . It went on to say that two thirds of those would grow up to become daily smokers .
MP Mary Foy , who chairs Westminster ' s All Party Parliamentary Group on Smoking , told the Mirror that raising the sale of tobacco to those aged 21 would be “ very , very welcome news .” However she urged caution when it came to vape products . She said : “ The evidence is not conclusive that vaping leads young people to start smoking and it is mostly confined to those who already smoke . " Vaping might not be 100 percent safe but it is 95 percent less harmful than burning tobacco and very effective in helping smokers to quit .”

“ If the government were to succumb to these illogical and unnecessary actions , their ambitions for a smokefree society by 2030 would be even less attainable than they already are .
