At the time of writing , over 800 public submissions have been recorded on the official government website , 98 percent of which were against the controversial ban . Consumers and advocacy groups have urged lawmakers to look to the science , accusing the motion as being fuelled by ‘ crooked reasoning and factual inaccuracies .’ Clive Bates , from The counterfactual , tweeted : “ European vapers should be on red-alert . The bollocks-driven American moral panic is heading to a government near you .” Advocacy groups are also taking a stand against the flavour ban , encouraging consumers to continue challenging potentially harmful government legislation . “ I am delighted to see common sense and logic prevail . When 98 percent of submissions are against the flavour ban , this sends a crystal-clear message to the government : it is time to scrap this terrible idea and move on ,” said Landl . “ Out of respect for citizens and on the basis of scientific evidence , dropping the flavour ban is the only possible way forward . Anything else would be a disgrace .” Landl highlighted that the flavour ban could put nearly 260,000 vapers at risk of returning to combustible cigarettes , with 3.1 percent of Dutch adults relying on vaping as a smoking cessation tool . He added : “ The second extension of the consultation shows that the whole process was flawed from the get-go , and that grassroots pressure from vapers can change policies . “ This is encouraging , but the fight isn ’ t over . We need to keep the pressure up to make sure lawmakers won ’ t push the ban through at a later stage .” Meanwhile , restrictions banning the display of tobacco products in Netherland ’ s supermarkets have now been extended to include e-cigarettes . Originally introduced in July 2020 , the ban was updated on January 1 and now prohibits the advertisement of nicotine and non-nicotine containing vaping products . The ban , imposed by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority , applies to all online stores and retail outlets but specialist vape and tobacco stores can apply for an exemption .
