N F E R REVIEWS H TYRO NANO By Benedict Jones Specifi cations: - Dimensions: 105mm*19mm (height including drip tip) - Battery capacity: 900mAh internal cell - E-liquid capacity: 2ml - Charging: Micro-USB Vaptio is a company known for its focus on affordable, beginner- friendly kits. The Tyro Nano is its latest device for new vapers and this is how it stacks up. Construction fi t and fi nish of the Tyro Nano is solid. This is a light device but it doesn’t feel flimsy and seams are kept to a minimum. I found that the o-rings which hold the tank section in place are very snug. This is a good thing when the device is set up and fi lled with e-liquid but out of the box, with no lubrication, it’s rather diffi cult to disassemble. Removing the tank section for the fi rst time to install the coil, forces the user to exert quite a bit of pressure on the glass and for this reason, it would be better if the device was fully disassembled when new. User experience here is very simple. The single button on the Tyro Nano acts as a fi ring mechanism and also powers the device on/ off with fi ve clicks. Unlike some other stick AIOs of this size, the Tyro Nano does not have variable power, which may be preferable for some users. The top fi ll mechanism is well designed, with a quarter turn revealing two fi ll ports covered by a membrane. Despite the relatively small size of the fi ll ports, I have experienced no overflow issues when fi lling and the membrane does a good job of preventing any leakage. In terms of vape quality, the Tyro Nano does not live up to its full potential. This device is compatible with Vaptio’s Cosmo coils, along with the Aspire Nautilus fi tting, both of which are tried and tested low wattage options. The problem here is not with the coils, which are proven performers but with the airflow. The Tyro Nano features two large, non-adjustable airflow inlets at the base of the tank section. This allows far too much air into the system, which then meets a bottleneck via the small inner diameter of the 1.6Ohm Cosmo coil. The result of this design is a loud, turbulent and PROS CONS - Well-executed top fi ll - Cool vapour - Good battery life - Poor airflow design - Muted flavour 184 VM25 rather open draw for a coil that is clearly optimised for low power MTL vaping. This turbulence and excessive airflow produces cool vapour with somewhat muted flavour. Vaptio will need to rethink their airflow inlets in order to solve this problem but this is a really easy fi x – a single 1mm hole on either side would be much more appropriate than the current cyclops style. Battery life is good for such a small device and I found the 900mAh internal cell to easily last a full day’s vaping, when fi lled with 20mg/ml nicotine salt e-liquid. The device charges from flat to full in just over an hour, which is well within acceptable limits considering run time. In summary, the Tyro Nano certainly has a lot of potential and I think the Cosmo coils will really shine for MTL vaping if the airflow design can be modifi ed.
