LETTER FROM THE Patrick Griffin - Editor [email protected] VAPOUROUND These are worrying times for the global vaping industry. I don’t ever remember a time when vaping was under such a sustained attack as it is now. Politicians, the media and those with their own agendas have whipped up a tsunami of wild hysteria where the entire vaping industry has been pilloried and demonised like never before. Is it perhaps a little opportunist that politicians have moved so quickly to introduce emergency flavour bans “to protect the youth of America” following the “vape lung” hospital admissions crisis? I think not. I could understand the concern if vaping commercial e-cigarettes was to blame. I could understand calls to stop using e-cigarettes, at least for the time being, if vaping commercial e-cigarettes was to blame. I could even understand the hysterical media coverage if vaping commercial e-cigarettes was to blame. Editor But our industry is not to blame. Drug peddlers unleashing fatal, black market products onto the market are to blame. As we report elsewhere in this issue, Professor Michael Siegel from Boston University, said of the current health scare: “The majority of the observed cases are associated with the use of THC oils that were obtained from unlicensed sellers.” What a mess we are now in. The hysteria, the media scare stories and the flavour bans will force vape businesses to close, turn current vapers back to smokers and see an unregulated black market of untested vape flavours spring up and flourish. This magazine is dominated by these stories and I urge each and every one of you to read them all, encourage your friends to do so and take acton to save our industry. We need to fi ght this madness now, while we still have an industry left to fi ght for. Patrick Griffi n. Editor - Vapouround.
