FEATURE in Tr e a m t Ruby Woo at Vap e Ja m DIARY OF A VAPER Featuring Trina McCurdy Travelling alone is always hard, and that’s why Trina McCurdy took her husband Nathan along on her vaping journey. I started smoking at around the age of 15. I never meant to smoke but it was the thing to do when you were bored. As I grew older, a pack of 10 became my everyday habit which gradually increased to 20-a-day. When my eldest child came home one day and said that she smelt of smoke, I knew I had to do something if not for me, then for my children. I had always wanted to quit and so I tried nicotine patches which gave me a rash on my arm and made me feel woozy, so I knew that would not be the way for me. Adverts started becoming more prominent for e-cigarettes, they were the ones that looked like cigarettes and I thought it would be fun to give it a try. I used a discount code and purchased a starter kit and my husband Nathan showed some interest, so I ordered another for him. Since then vaping has totally changed our lives. It did not take long with the use of the starter kits and better recommended kits from forums to stop buying cigarettes and they even started to taste dirty. Both myself and Nathan have now been vapers for eight years. 38 | VM23 Time has really flown by and our kits have changed numerous times getting bigger and better. My husband has moved to a restricted direct-to-lung style and loves his Kayfun 5’s and the Ares paired with Evics or Vaporesso. I prefer the traditional mouth-to-lung draw and use Kayfun Primes, Kayfun Lite Plus, Beserkers and Ares, paired with Asmodus mods and OBS Cubes. I like more custard-type vapes whilst Nathan loves his fruity flavours. DIY liquids will always be our preference as we can control the flavour and blend of the mix. We don’t go to as many expos now because we are happy with our kit, but we like to see what is new and try out new juices and are regular attendees at Vape Jam in London. This year we met Ruby Woo (pictured) there which was amazing. The forums were incredibly helpful, it’s an online community where you make friends as well as help others who are starting their vaping journey. I was surprised that it was me who learned how to build and wick as Nathan loves electronics, but vaping has become a big part of our life and anything I learn, we try together.
