The idea behind hybrid mechanical mods

is simple. A battery sits inside the tube, with direct
contact to the 510 connection of an atomiser on top. A
mechanical switch completes the circuit when pressed,
providing the full voltage of the cell with no electronic
assistance.
Mechanical mods have been around since the dawn of
hobbyist vaping but their performance has come a long way. A
2019 mech needs to perform flawlessly. Does the Unknown Mod
hit the mark?
Construction, fit and finish are fantastic. The black cerakoted copper
model has a flawless finish. This is a large and heavy device but those 3mm
thick copper walls are not just there to feel premium. They’re also a functional
design choice when it comes to performance.
The Unknown features one of the simplest mechanical switches I’ve ever seen.
Simply push the plunger, give the contact a few turns and you’re ready to perform
maintenance. This is a fantastic quality of life feature.
The 99 percent silver coated contacts are incredibly resistant to tarnish. The smooth switch
action allows for some user customisation. Provided with the mod are 2lb and 4lb silver-plated
springs. The 2lb spring has a hair-trigger throw that I absolutely love. The 4lb spring is very
sturdy and probably more suited for taking The Unknown out and about.
The Unknown is compatible with 21700, 20700 and 18650 cells. This is a must for any mech mod in
2019 and I’ve had no issues with this device adjusting for battery size whatsoever. When a mod is as
beefy as this one, I recommend only using 21700 cells as that will give you the best possible performance
and battery life.
The Unknown performs brilliantly. The smooth switch action combined with the silver contacts and robust
copper body make for one of the hardest-hitting mods on the planet. Whether you enjoy super sub-ohm vaping
with crazy dual-coil builds, or more mellow single coil atomisers, the Unknown doesn’t miss a beat. If you’re a mech
fan looking for minimal voltage drop and premium construction, this device is the one to go for.
In summary, The Unknown is a fantastic mechanical device for advanced vapers that enjoy larger mech tubes. From
build quality to ease-of-use to performance, this mod has
it all. The fact that it’s designed and made right here in the UK is just the icing on the cake.
