All-in-one starter kits have
somewhat given way to smaller pod
systems as of late, but Vaptio seem to
be unphased by this trend and continue
to release more classically styled devices.
The Tyro is their latest AIO, clearly aimed at
beginners.
With a simple 19mm tube form factor, this kit may not
have the futuristic stylings of some of its competitors,
but for many this less flashy look is a selling point.
Construction, fit and finish is about what you would expect
from an affordable device like this. The Tyro has a nice weight
to it and feels sturdy in the hand, with no rattles to speak of.
Operating the Tyro couldn’t be simpler. There’s just one button, which
acts as a firing mechanism as well as the on/off switch. Five clicks will
power the device on or off and there are no settings to fiddle with, so this
should be ideal for those that want a plug and play experience.
There is some adjustability when it comes to airflow, though. An integrated airflow
ring can be turned by swiveling the tank section, allowing the user to choose from
loose mouth-to-lung (MTL) all the way up to a restricted lung hit. This is a nice range
of adjustment and the majority of new users should be able to find something that suits
them here. Filling the tank section is also made easy with a large fill port that is also exposed
by turning the tank section.
The coils are what makes the Tyro an interesting proposition. Bundled with the kit are a 1.6Ohm
ceramic MTL coil and a 0.7Ohm DTL coil. Right off the bat this allows a new vaper to discover which
style is going to suit them best going forward and both coils perform quite nicely, which is surprising
considering the power output available here. Eagle eyed vapers may have noticed that these coils look
similar in size to those used in the Aspire Nautilus, and they are in fact cross compatible. This is another great
design choice form Vaptio, since Nautilus coils are carried by virtually every bricks and mortar store, meaning
Tyro users should always be able to purchase a new coil in a pinch.
The 1500mAh internal cell makes this device very practical for new vapers who are willing to carry something slightly
larger than a pod system. Using the 1.6Ohm MTL coils, I was easily able to get more than a day’s use on a single charge
of the battery, which is a huge selling point for the beginners that this device is aimed at. The 0.7Ohm coil predictably results
in shorter battery life, but I was still able to get more than half a day’s use out of one charge, which is impressive considering
the performance of these coils and the size of the Tyro.
