The Aegis series of mods have quickly become Geekvape’s most successful
and critically acclaimed devices. Their main USP is a rugged chassis that is
both waterproof and shock resistant. Both of the previous Aegis models were
somewhat bulky but this new offering is dramatically stealthier, which makes
total sense given the huge demand for tiny mods we are now seeing.
The Aegis Mini has big shoes to fill in terms of build quality and fortunately it does
not disappoint at all. This device feels every bit as rugged as its predecessors, in
fact in some ways it feels even more solid. The rubber and stainless-steel outer
shell isn’t just tough though, it’s also incredibly ergonomic. The unique shape of
the casing fits perfectly into the palm of the user’s hand and though it seems to
be optimised for thumb firing, it’s equally as comfortable when using your index
finger. Normally I’m quite careful with my devices but I felt the need to put the
waterproofing to the test. After submerging the mod in a bowl of water for an
hour, it still worked perfectly.
- Fantastic build quality/durability
- 30-40W mesh coils
- Very ergonomic
- AS chipset The AS chipset found in previous Aegis mods is here in full form, which is quite an
achievement considering the size of this version. Variable wattage, temperature
control, TCR, power curves and bypass modes are all available here. This is a
lot of functionality to fit into a mod this size and means advanced users need not
compromise for the sake of portability. As in the past, the AS chip is incredibly
quick to fire, and temperature control is very serviceable, my only complaint is a
slight ramp up time, but other than this it works nicely.
- When the internal cell dies, so does the mod The 2200mAh cell in the Aegis Mini performs very well. In moderate use at 40W
or so, expect to get four or five hours on a full charge. When using a low power
MTL atomiser between 15-20W, I was easily getting a full day’s use out of the
device, with no downtime at all.
The bundled Cerberus tank is pretty much an aesthetic overhaul of the Aero
tank supplied with the Aegis Legend kit. The convenient top fill, airflow control
and baby beast coil compatibility remain, but everything has been slightly
streamlined, resulting in a shorter tank, whether you have the TPD or normal
version.
The main development of the kit are the new X2 mesh coils, rated for 30-40W.
Not only is this an ideal range for the smaller battery life of the Aegis Mini, but
it’s also a big deal for mid-wattage sub-ohm vapers, since until now, mesh tanks
have invariably required more than 60W of power.
The Geekvape Aegis Mini is a well thought out and well-constructed kit that’s
ideal for almost any vaper. It’s become my MTL mod of choice, for all of the
above reasons.
