REVIEWS REVIEW BY BENEDICT JONES ORCA SOLO SPECS: Tank capacity: 1.5ml Battery capacity: 800mAh internal cell Power output: 7W-12W Charging: Micro-USB PROS - GOOD FLAVOUR AND VAPOUR PRODUCTION FOR ITS SIZE - BATTERY LIFE AND QUICK CHARGE MAKE IT A RELIABLE ON THE GO - VERY USER FRIENDLY CONS - CERAMIC COIL STRUGGLES WITH THICKER E-LIQUIDS EASY FILLING SYSTEM So far, 2018 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for mouth-to-lung fans and beginners to vaping alike. All in one (AIO) kits are becoming more streamlined with each iteration and the Vaporesso Orca Solo kit is no exception. It’s a rather dainty device that slips into the pocket almost completely undetected and has a minimalist aesthetic which should appeal to most. It certainly shouldn’t be off-putting to smokers who aren’t so keen on the more flamboyant devices available. There are two coil options available with the kit. The 1.3ohm OC CELL coil incorporates ceramic into the wicking process, which is marketed as extending the life of the coil, since it is more heat resistant than cotton. I’ve had a mixed bag of experiences in the past with ceramic wicking, but here it works well, provided you use thinner e-liquids. I found anything up to a 60/40 VG/PG ratio to be great. For such a small coil, it produces good flavour and a nice little cloud of vapour too. Vaporesso market the Orca Solo as having “Flash Heat” technology, and I must say there is little to no ramp up time, which is perfect for getting an instantaneous nicotine hit. The other coil provided is the 1.3ohm OC coil. This one does away with the ceramic wicking and performs better in my eyes. I found it provided more intense flavour, slightly improved vapour production and had the added benefit of increased wicking efficiency. Using the OC coil, 70/30 VG/PG e-liquids posed no problem, which does open the device up to more options. The adjustable airflow ring on the Orca is simplistic but welcome. It allows the user to really dial in the experience, from an extremely restrictive mouth-to-lung, all the way up to an airier draw that is more reminiscent of a shisha pipe, but not quite a direct-to-lung experience. I personally found setting the airflow to a third of the way open gave me great flavour and a satisfying restriction for high strength nicotine e-liquids. The 800mAh internal battery makes this kit one of the more reliable stealth devices I’ve used. I found that when using 18mg e-liquids, the battery would last me for most of the day, and the onboard 1A quick charging ensured minimal down time. Overall, the Vaporesso Orca is a fantastic choice for beginners, or experienced vapers who require a small mouth-to-lung kit that provides a satisfying and consistent high-nicotine experience. During my time using it, I didn’t run into any issues to speak of and it remains to be one of my most used stealth devices. 212 | VM17
