When I speak to members of the vape community in the US the recurring theme is how they wish the legislation in the US was as settled and stable as it is in Europe. Certainly nobody would argue that the TPD is perfect but it offers more clarity and is certainly more business and consumer friendly than the situation in the US. It was good to see a mix of both local, national and international businesses at the event. This is a well-organised show and I think the mix of exhibitors it attracts is spot on. As always, I got to speak to a huge number of people at the show and I always enjoy talking to people in the vape industry, advocates and those with an interest in vaping and smoking cessation products. I was happy to catch up with David Goerlitz again – he always has interesting and informative things to say and is delight to talk to. It is great to see that he has his own signature e-liquid line out now, the David G collection. David said, “I have been talking about vaping for a long time now and I have been very active in the industry but finally I have skin in the game. I want to get away from people referring to me as ‘Former Winston Man David Goerlitz’ which follows me everywhere I go. Now I am David G and if people call me ‘David G, formerly known as the Winston Man’ then I will be happy with that.” It is a long time since David was the Winston Man and given all that he has done in the years since then, referring to him as The Former Winston man just seems plain wrong. David is also often referred to as a vape advocate but he points out that he is a vape activist rather than an advocate, explaining, “Advocates are people who help those who cannot help themselves while activists are people who go out and make social and political change.” So finally, thanks once again to the organisers of VapEvent NYC for putting together such a great show and I look forward to the next one.
